Virbac’s Speed Trio FeLV/FIV/FCoV test utilised by Scottish Wildcat Action

2nd September 2016

Virbac has helped Scottish Wildcat Action to reduce the risk of fatal diseases spreading in wildcat and feral cat populations in Scotland by donating supplies of a diagnostic test.

The company has provided the conservation project with donations of Speed Trio FeLV/FIV/FCoV, a diagnostic test that can detect for feline leukaemia virus (FeLV), feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline coronavirus (FCoV) in 15 minutes.

These diseases pose pose a threat to Scottish wildcats and feral cats, but Speed Trio's rapid results makes it possible for Scottish Wildcat Actions' workers to make quick decisions to optimise welfare and maximise the chances of the species' survival.

It also facilitates the organisation's work in trapping, neutering, vaccinating and returning animals to prevent hybridisation and disease transfer to wildcats.

Madeline Haynes, product manager for the Speed range at Virbac, said: "Speed Trio has proved a popular addition to our comprehensive in-house Speed diagnostic range, which has been proven in practice for more than 20 years. We are delighted to donate Speed Trio to the Scottish Wildcat Action team."
