Waters launches new LiveID mass spectrometer software
Waters has announced the launch of LiveID, its new software for real-time direct-from-sample food analysis and plant phenotyping.
The software is designed for near-instantaneous measurement and classification of food products – including meat and crops – using Waters' range of quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometers, and is now available worldwide.
It can be used with the Waters Xevo G2-XS QTof or Synapt G2-Si mass spectrometer systems, when equipped with iKnife Sampling devices, Rapid Evaporative Ionization Mass Spectrometry ion sources and MassLynx Mass Spectrometry Software, to help detect food fraud.
LiveID is able to produce definitive results in seconds, creating a molecular profile or chemical fingerprint of the sample, comparing it to a user-generated database of references and classifying it into a sample type or grouping.
This will make it easier to tackle the widespread issue of food fraud, in which food is labelled and sold as something it is not.
Ronan O'Malley, senior director of informatics products at Waters, said: "We've designed LiveID Software to make the process of getting real-time information about samples as intuitive, as quick and as easy as possible."
