Waters technology featured in report

17th November 2009

Waters’ ACQUITY UPLC technology was recently involved in a trial exploring rapid screening methods for Alkylphenols and Bisphenol A (BPA), it has emerged.

BPA, which is a soluble compound that reacts to water, undergoes degradation when exposed to the environment.

However, when introduced to the human body, it can serve to disrupt endocrines in the same way natural hormones do and can therefore pose a possible risk to health.

The research into the compound was conducted by Dr Lawrence Zintek, a national organic methods development expert for the Environmental Protection Agency.

Senior manager of chemical analysis for Waters Joe Romano said: “In publishing these new […] methods, Dr Zintek and his team have provided environmental labs worldwide with the roadmap to screen for potentially harmful Alkylphenols and BPA in water supplies.”

Last week, Waters announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2009, revealing sales of $374 million (224.2 million pounds) – a decrease of three per cent when compared to the $386 million generated during the correlating period of 2008.
