Woodley Equipment launches RapidBac Vet test for urinary tract infections
Woodley Equipment has announced the launch of RapidBac Vet, a new rapid immunoassay for the detection of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria in urine.
Designed for use as an aid in the diagnosis of canine urinary tract infections, it offers a new method for detecting bacteriuria and an alternative to urine culture, which is an expensive and time-consuming test performed at specialised laboratories.
By contrast, RapidBac Vet tests can be performed immediately in-practice prior to treatment, offering a high overall accuracy rate of 98.5 percent and results within 20 minutes. Moreover, it requires no special apparatus to conduct and can be stored at room temperature.
This test is currently undergoing validation for feline use, meaning its applications could be expanded further in future.
Dave McComas, international sales manager and biomedical scientist at Woodley, said: "This simple, cost-effective rapid assay offers Woodley customers a direct replacement for urine culture."
Woodley is one of the fastest growing companies in its industry sector, with its main offices and warehouse premises located in north-west England.
