Wyeth facilities named as Carolina STAR sites

19th December 2007

Wyeth Pharmaceuticals has announced that its Sanford vaccine manufacturing and research facility and its Research Triangle Park have been named as Carolina STAR sites.

The Carolina STAR is awarded by the North Carolina Department of Labour in recognition of work sites that are self-sufficient in being able to control hazards through successful health and safety programmes.

Sites recognised with the STAR award are also acknowledged as leaders in employee protection, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Department which runs the programme for general industry.

Nita Tosic, the managing director of Wyeth’s Sanford site, expressed the company’s delight in being one of the first pharmaceutical manufacturers to receive the award.

“Our commitment to employee health and safety is steadfast and we will continue to be active supporters of the state’s efforts with this program,” she added.

Sanford is the largest single-site employer to receiver the honour with the facility joining the other 104 employers who have been recognised as Carolina STAR sites.

Earlier this month, Wyeth announced that it has been recognised for its pharmaceutical and scientific achievements at the third annual Scrip Awards ceremony, where it received honours for Best Overall Pipeline and Best New Drug.
