Wyeth names new president

28th November 2008

Wyeth has named the new president and managing director of its Canadian operations.

The appointments see Christian Velmer taking on the roles, replacing Arnout Amstel, who will take the position of senior vice-president and general manager of the institutional business unit.

Previous to the new job, Mr Velmer was senior vice-president at Merck Serono’s Western Europe subsidiary in Frankfurt, Germany.

This saw him responsible for the management of 16 countries across the continent.

Before the role at Merck Serono, he also worked at Johnson & Johnson and Bayer in Asia Pacific, Latin America and Europe.

President of Europe, Middle East, Africa and Canada at Wyeth Andreas Krebs said: “Mr Velmer brings to his new position an extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical company management. I’m pleased to welcome him aboard and I look forward to the continued progress of the Canadian business under his leadership.”

Last week, the company announced its Premarin vaginal cream 0.5 gm had been approved by the USA Food and Drugs Administration (FDA).

The product is used as a less frequent twice-weekly dosing regiment to treat moderate to severe postmenopausal dyspareunia.

Founded in 1926, Wyeth is headquartered in Madison, US and operates in more than 100 countries.
