Wyeth names new research and development head

18th February 2008

Wyeth Consumer Healthcare, a division of Wyeth, has announced the appointment of a new head of global research and development at the firm.

Isma Benattia has been named as executive vice-president of global research and development effective immediately and will head up all aspects of this area for the consumer division of the firm.

She will lead and prioritise the unit’s work to bring new products to market and manage the regulatory environment for the company’s over-the-counter drugs.

“Dr Benattia joins Wyeth Consumer Healthcare after serving at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals since 2003, where she most recently was vice-president of global labelling,” Wyeth reports.

In this position, Dr Benattia played a vital role in the management of scientific and regulatory issues relating to Wyeth’s second-largest brand by global revenue, Effexor (venlafaxine).

Before joining the firm, Dr Benattia led global clinical programmes for key products at firms including Eli Lilly and Pfizer.

Earlier this month, Wyeth announced the appointment of Timothy P Cost to the role of senior vice-president of corporate affairs at the firm following the approval of its board of directors.

Mr Cost succeeded Marily H Rhudy in the position following her retirement.
