Zimmer partners with Efort on surgical education

7th June 2010

Zimmer is to support the provision of educational opportunities in the field of surgery via a new partnership with the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (Efort).

Under the terms of the agreement, the medical technology firm will contribute 120,000 euros (99,400 pounds) to the Efort Foundation Visiting Fellowship Program, providing 3,000 euros to up to 40 post-graduate surgeons.

This funding is designed to allow adult reconstructive orthopaedics and trauma specialists to spend up to six weeks in selected European centres, gaining exposure to surgical cases and expert tuition.

Bruno Melzi, chairman of Zimmer in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said this scheme is representative of the firm’s belief in the role played by the industry in advancing patient care.

He added: “The 2010 Visiting Fellowship Program is aligned with Zimmer’s commitment to medical education and we’re excited to partner with the Efort Foundation to support the training of the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.”

This comes after Zimmer last week attended the Efort congress, where it gave a series of presentations highlighting new medical devices such as its Trabecular Metal technology for knee revisions and Fitmore hip stem.
