Business Development Manager opportunity great for someone with previous science sales experience or someone with a science degree who is currently working in a laboratory looking for a sales role.
Between 30% – 50% national and international travel (key areas are the UK, Europe, Ireland with some travel to Asia and USA) with the rest of the time being office based in Nottingham.
Summary of position:
Your primary role will be to promote product sales and provide application specific technical support and training to customers, internal sales staff and distributors. It is anticipated that approximately 70% of the time will be focused on current customers and sales and 30% on future business. Specifically, you’ll be responsible for:
– Assist sales administrators with preparation of sales and after-sales quotations
– Monitors and drives the efficiency and continuous improvement of the sales order processes
– Liaise with customers and distributors by phone and email to provide technical information and application support. Follows up sales enquires directly where required
– Implement, expand and maintain detailed customer database (CRM)
– Occasionally visit customers to promote sales of products and services
– Provide in-house and on-site product training sessions for internal staff, customers and distributors
– Support the organisation and technical seminars internationally
– Participate in international conferences, seminars and exhibitions where appropriate
– Liaise with marketing team (internal and external) to assist in the generation of technical articles, adverts and press releases
– Update web-site and other channels with new technical information, when required
– Develop long-term relationships with existing and potential customers
– Maintain, grow and support relationships with international distributors
– Interact with product support engineers to resolve technical problems and improve existing products
– Contribute to ideas for new product development and help evaluate potential solutions
– Report to the Business Development Manager
Person Specification:
– Degree qualified in science based subject (preferably engineering or chemistry)
– Experience working in a pharmaceutical laboratory advantageous
– Excellent technical knowledge and understanding
– Competent sales and negotiation skills
– Initiative, drive and enthusiasm
– Excellent communication and ‘people skills’
– Good planning and organisational skills
– The ability to work calmly under pressure
– Competent IT skills
– A full driving licence
– Ability and willingness to travel nationally and internationally when required
