Role Overview

Purpose
· Reporting to the Operations Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing practices throughout the product cycle, from inputs at concept phase through to factory creation then maintenance and continuous improvement of processes and equipment to defined quality systems.

Purpose
· Reporting to the Operations Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing practices throughout the product cycle, from inputs at concept phase through to factory creation then maintenance and continuous improvement of processes and equipment to defined quality systems.

Key Responsibilities
· Technical point of contact for outsource manufacturing
· Oversee manufacturing practices throughout the product cycle, from inputs at concept phase through to process creation
· Continuous improvement of processes and equipment to defined quality systems.
· Providing feedback to engineering and R&D
· Support the development of mass spectrometers, ion sources and vacuum systems
· Analyse and solve issues as required. Testing and debugging instruments where applicable.
Drive product quality issues to resolution.
Undertake cost reduction feasibility studies and create supporting data to enable a change.
Critique and where appropriate create assembly documentation for use within factory sub-contractor. Provide training to technicians following release of new documentation.
Help to define and scope assembly aids, including jigs and small tools. Management of calibrated tooling and database within defined quality system.
Take the technical lead in the transfer of products to our outsourced manufacturer or transfer product from one manufacture to another.
Providing engineering advice and support to all departments for the purpose of NPI and remedial works; corrective and preventative action, obsolescence solutions and product/process enhancement.
Responsible for ensuring all health and safety requirements are adhered to and raise any issues or observations with their manager
Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably requested by the Company.

Experience:
· At least 5 years Production Engineering experience within an electro-mechanical Mass spectrometer instrumentation Business with a defined quality management system.
· Have gained extensive knowledge of production techniques and best practices for electro-mechanical products, vacuum components, and electrical assemblies.
· Have designed, specified, or manufactured tooling/jigs/fixtures to enhance assembly processes.
· Have in-depth knowledge of Lean methodologies and have led continuous improvement projects.
· Able to interpret technical engineering drawings and competent in the use of CAD systems.
· Have experience of fault resolution of manufacturing derived issues.
· Conversant with mass spectrometers and their use
· Good understanding of the physics and chemistry of mass spectrometry
· Practical experience of vacuum systems design and development
· Proven DoE approach to scientific investigations

Personality:
· Good presentation and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels throughout the business.
· Good problem-solving skills with the ability to consider all views impartially.
· Good team player with hands-on approach to work
· Prepared to travel, visit sub-contractors and suppliers throughout UK and sometimes overseas.
