Product Manager
Role Overview
The Role:
Due to a 12 month maternity leave absence they are looking to appointment a territory-focused Technical Sales Representative to maintain and develop a specific range of products into the laboratory instruments business sector in the South of the UK.
This role is for a fixed term contract with the possibility of permanent employment at the end of the period. The fixed term duration will be with immediate start and finish no sooner than August 2024
The North/South split will be adjusted after the post is filled and depends upon the successful candidate’s home location.
The primary product responsibility is Thermo HAAKE Rheometers and Viscometers
Other products will be Koehler Instruments products for petrochemical testing, , Spectro InfraCal 2. The compnay operate as an exclusive sales channel for all of these products in the UK.
The product responsibilities will be shared with the support of the Northern Product Manager, with whom the successful candidate would be expected to work with on a regular basis.
An overlap period with the current Southern Product Manager will take place until she leaves for maternity leave.

We’re working with a highly regarded and long-established distributor of laboratory equipment throughout the UK and Ireland, founded in 1979. This role involves working with a range of Rheometers and Viscometers across the South UK!
Role Requirements
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the field of rheology and viscometry by either presenting:
– Demonstrable use of a rheometer
– Demonstrable knowledge of rheology obtained as part of a research project (Phd, post doc)
– Demonstrable regular use of rheometers as part of routine lab work
– Taking over and maintaining profitable sales within the allocated territory for the products detailed above
– Developing new opportunities through visits to current and potential customers and organizing of trade shows and seminars
– Demonstrating equipment at customer locations and online
– Installing equipment and training users on new equipment
– After sales technical customer support including advice on operation of equipment and provision of quotes for spare and consumables
– Reporting to the line manager
– Using ACT CRM database to track customer information and sales opportunities
– Keeping abreast of competitors products
– Promoting all products while on customer visits, gathering market information and relaying back to the appropriate product manager
– Promoting all company interests at UK and Ireland exhibitions where the companies’ Lab Instruments are of specific interest to the event attendees
– The role will involve occasional overnight stays
– The role will require occasional visits to the office which is located in Stockport, Manchester
– The role will require occasional international travel to attend supplier training and sales meetings
– The role will be a constantly evolving one, and additional responsibilities may be added as the Company product portfolio changes and the successful candidate develops
Person Specifications
The Experience & Qualifications:
Required:
– Science degree (BSc) or related
– Previous use of rheology or rheometers as part of routine lab work or research project
– Either sales or hands on practical experience in the areas of rheology
– Live in the Midlands or South UK as this is where the majority of the successful candidate’s time will be spent. Please note that no relocation package is offered with this role.
– Excellent oral and written skills
– Fully computer literate with Microsoft Office and able to format documents such as emails and other form of written communication in a professional manner.
– Full UK driving license
Desirable:
– Use of some of the other listed techniques in a laboratory environment, particularly the Koehler range
– Field sales experience of chemistry-related lab equipment is not essential but would be an advantage
Personal Qualities:
– Dynamic, outgoing and well-organized individual
– Able to work as a team player as well as take control and make decisions when necessary
– Flexible individual with a desire to get ‘stuck in’ at all levels is an absolute must
– Having the stature and confidence to deal with senior managers
Package
Base salary between £35,000 – £42,000 depending on experience
Generous bonus based on agreed sales target (between £15,000 – £20,000)
