$150M to be Awarded by the White House for Precision Cancer Surgery
The Biden administration intends to provide $150 million in financing to innovators in the field of new technology development in order to enhance the safety and precision of tumour surgery as a component of its national cancer moonshot initiatives.
This includes ways to let surgeons see any cancer cells that may still be present in actual time during an operation, in addition to imaging approaches that could assist them steer clear of vital healthy systems like blood veins and nerves.
Eight recipients will share the $150 million in awards: seven colleges and one health care imaging business, Cision Vision, located in Silicon Valley that uses infrared imaging to identify hidden lymph nodes in removed biopsy samples.
Karen Knudsen, Ph.D., CEO of the American Cancer Society and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, stated: “We’ve made tremendous strides in how we prevent, detect, treat and survive cancer, but there is still much work to be done to improve the lives of those touched by this disease.”
She continued: “Cancer cases are estimated to hit an all-time high this year, and we cannot relent in driving forward public policies that will address this.”
