Aphthous Ulcer Therapy to be Tested in Clinical Trial
Considering how common and excruciating RAS is, it is not unexpected that a vast range of therapies have been created. Nevertheless, despite these initiatives, there is still no effective cure for the illness, and clinical studies have not shown much positive results to date. This makes the need for fresh, more potent therapeutic approaches critical.
“The patch absorbs up to 100% of the ‘inflammatory soup’ of tissue fluid, inflammatory compounds, viruses, and bacteria in the aphthous ulcer,” said Jean Lycke, project manager for Mucocort. The patch takes 3-4 hours to gel after absorbing 20–25 times its original weight. After then, it is completely biodegradable and may be consumed or spat up.
With the Swedish regulatory authorities’ clearance, Mucocort is now scheduled to start a clinical study of the patch in August, with an estimated six-month duration anticipated for the experiment. In addition to measuring pain alleviation as the main goal, the investigation will evaluate people’s quality of life in relation to their RAS.
