Calcivis unveils Bioluminescent Dental Imaging Device

21st March 2024

Calcivis, a medical equipment firm, has introduced its latest preventive dental imaging system featuring bioluminescence technology in the United States.

This development follows the company’s attainment of pre-market authorisation from the US FDA for its novel imaging tool, characterised by its wireless functionality and portability.

This imaging system uses a unique substance, photoprotein, that reacts to calcium ions released from decaying tooth surfaces, creating a quick flash of light. A sensor inside the mouth detects this flash and shows dentists a map of where the decay is located.

Endorsed as both safe and efficacious for application in adults and children aged six years and above, the system can be utilised for all accessible coronal tooth surfaces.

Adam Chirstie, the head executive at Calcivis, commented, “With our US commercial team in place and a very user-friendly, ready for market device, we are confident that the Calcivis Imaging System will significantly improve patient care and enable restorative dentistry to move to a more preventive approach.”
