First Standing MRI Scanner for Horses
The clinic in Maidstone professes to be the first facility in the UK to acquire a Qalibra CT machine, which produces scans of medical quality, and the first clinic in the world to construct a standing leg MRI scanner.
With the use of this programme, veterinarians will be able to precisely determine both soft tissue and bone anomalies in steeds as well as create complicated 3D reconstructions.
The freshly developed system is capable of scanning many parts of the horse’s body, including the head and lower limbs, because it is mounted on a height-adjustable frame that allows the entire gantry to revolve around the animal.
Other previously unscannable regions, including the horses’ elbow, shoulder, and cranial thoracic spine, are capable of being scanned while under a course of anaesthesia.
“Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic is very proud to be the first clinic to install the Qalibra system in the UK,” stated Tim Mair, an associate member of the European College of Diagnostic Imaging and a specialist in horse internal medicine at Bell.
He continued: “This is the most up-to-date CT scanner for horses, giving the highest quality images and the ability to scan more quickly – as well as allowing access to parts of the horse that it was not previously possible to image with CT. We hope that it significantly benefits all of our equine patients and their owners in this region.”
