New Hen Housing Grant Unveiled
With an overarching goal of improving the well-being of animals, Defra has announced further details of its latest £22 million grant hens and pullet homes.
Farmers in England who maintain at least 1,000 birds will be eligible for the payment, which was first made public earlier in May. It may be used to finance “comprehensive” projects, which are defined as projects that replace or improve current housing for laying hens or pullets.
This is a chance to improve housing by adding aspects like mechanical airflow, new LED lighting and other elements that are intended to provide a high standard of well-being and health.
Farmers employing any type of housing arrangement now in place are eligible for the incentive, which will assist those wishing to switch from caged colonies to looser housing.
