New Veterinary Medicine Legislation Introduced to the UK
The UK’s veterinary medicine policies have undergone the most significant changes since 2013, and the animal medical field has embraced the latest restrictions.
The advertising, production, distribution, ownership, and application of veterinary medications and treated feed are regulated by the recently enacted Veterinary Medicines Regulations.
By making it easier to submit a single marketing approval request document and allowing the use of standard packages throughout the UK, the new regulations aim to lessen the administrative load.
Additional adjustments involve tighter guidelines on the administration of antibiotics and medicines given through food in an effort to combat resistance to antimicrobial drugs.
The veterinary industry has strongly supported the amendments, which are applicable to enterprises that are involved in the distribution and manufacturing of veterinary pharmaceuticals, such as pharmaceutical firms.
According to the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, the fresh rules contain steps that expand on the livestock industry’s accomplishments in lowering the needless use of antibiotics, that are expected to lower the likelihood that antimicrobial resistance will form.
The Responsible Use of Medicines in Agriculture chair, Cat McLaughlin stated: “The VMRs are a vital piece of legislation to which a number of important amendments have been made.’’
