NHS Introduce Cancer Vaccine Clinical Trials
As a result of NHS England’s new Cancer vaccination Launch Pad (CVLP), the NHS has revealed it recently treated the very first individual in England via a customised cancer vaccination in a clinical study.
The NHS CVLP is working with Genomics England to expedite the creation of cancer vaccines as a medication while also facilitating faster entry for people with cancer to mRNA-personalised cancer vaccine studies.
The programme, which has already attracted 30 hospitals in England, aims to work with the pharmaceutical sector to provide access to individuals who have a variety of cancers.
People who consent to participate will undergo a blood test and a sample of their cancer tissue collected. They will then be directed to the closest NHS site that is involved with the research, which is being conducted at multiple NHS trusts around the nation to deal with various forms of cancer.
Amanda Pritchard, chief executive, NHS, stated: “These vaccine trials could one day offer us a way of vaccinating people against their own cancer to help save more lives.’’
“Our national match-making service will ensure as many eligible patients as possible get the opportunity to access them.”
