Thermo Fisher Cleared for $3.1B Olink Takeover
Thermo Fisher Scientific is getting close to finalising its $3.1 billion acquisition of Olink, the Swedish provider of protein analysis equipment, antibody testing, and research services, according to a fresh approval from antitrust authorities in the United Kingdom.
After starting its preliminary investigation in May, the nation’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said on July 8 that it had completed its investigation and approved the transaction.
Thermo Fisher has already received approval from national competition authorities in Iceland and Germany. The German authorities were compelled to look into the deal because Thermo Fisher has a sizable business in that nation and its entire worth is significantly more than 400 million euros.
Andreas Mundt, president of Germany’s Bundeskartellamt, or federal cartel office, stated: “The merger will result in only insignificant market share additions on the markets affected. Potential product bundling or the risk of market foreclosure, which have been thoroughly examined, are ultimately not expected to occur.”
