A Medical Project Seeks to Improve the Diagnosis of BOAS

A veterinary organisation has implemented a clinical enhancement initiative in 25 of its smaller animal offices with the aim of enhancing the identification of brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS).

Veterinarians and vet nurses can utilise the clinical evaluation tool created by CVS to assist in reaching a comprehensive assessment.

By doing a thorough health evaluation and methodical physical inspection of every brachycephalic patient, the study seeks to discover clinical indicators.

Additionally, clinicians will gently discuss breeding, purchasing, and raising brachy breeds with customers. They will also provide health advice on how to manage a dog’s way of life, addressing concerns about maintaining a low weight and caring for pets during hot temperatures.

For this endeavour, a variety of tools were created and made available for team members in the 25 practices, comprising clinical guidelines, in-person training, webinars, and internet-based courses.

Regional clinical lead Charlotte Bray, stated: “We have a booming population of brachycephalic dogs. They come with a range of health issues, including respiratory conditions.’’

Charlotte continued: “On occasion clients may not be able to recognise when their pet has an issue. So our aim is to identify those affected dogs, make a thorough assessment and signpost clients to the best course of action for their animal – so that they can get the best treatment.’’
