AI Software Purchased by GE Healthcare for $51M
For around $51 million, GE Healthcare is going to purchase the clinical AI software division of Intelligent Ultrasound Group.
GE’s portfolio currently comprises one integrated component of intelligent ultrasound software. The SonoLyst AI software for GE’s Voluson line of ultrasound devices is powered by Scannav Assist AI. The software, which facilitates obstetric ultrasonography, was only available through GE prior to the business’s acquisition of the clinical AI division. In 2020, GE introduced an ultrasound equipment that used software developed from Intelligent Ultrasound.
Other clients purchased the clinical edition of Intelligent Ultrasound’s Scannav Anatomy Peripheral Nerve Block programme. The business started creating products like Scannav Liver and Scannav FetalCheck, which estimate gestational age, after realising that clinical AI software will be the primary target for future expansion.
In an announcement, Intelligent Ultrasound chairman Riccardo Pigliucci said that the company’s sales growth had lagged below expectations and that the creation of new products “would require the sort of funding levels that are outside the Group’s current cash resources or capital raise capabilities.”
