Broiler Vaccine Gains Marketing Approval
After being approved by the British regulator, a novel vaccination will shield broilers from the extremely harmful avian encephalomyelitis illness. AviPro AE, a vaccine developed by Elanco Animal Health, is intended to prevent pandemic tremors in young broilers and egg drop in mature in-lay birds.
A serious condition known as epidemic tremors in broilers causes unsteadiness and anxious indications in the birds, which cause them to perch on their hocks. Additional signs that might result in a high death and morbidity rate of 5–60% involve paralysis and tremors of the head, neck, and wings.
When this illness affects adult birds who are laying, egg production may decrease by 5–10% and remain reduced for over two weeks.
James Bishop, technical consultant at Elanco commented: “The availability of AviPro AE offers pullet rearers and broiler breeders an alternative solution to a critically important disease, as there is no treatment available once the disease is present.”
