Cattle Heat Stress Tracker Free to Farmers
As conditions soar around the UK, farmers are able to track cow heat stress by using a new, free online application. In order to improve cow welfare and efficiency, farmers may now measure and manage the danger of heat stress by using the Temperature-Humidity Index (THI) instrument.
Farmers may use this information to determine which elements influence THI levels and the ramifications for their operations by learning about the specific design features of each shed.
Their objective was to provide farmers with current data on barn circumstances so they could evaluate the possibility of heat stress in their region.
Heat-stressed cattle may consume up to 30% less dry matter, which will result in less milk being produced.
Andrew Gardener, technical director at Galebreaker stated: “THI combines temperature and humidity to give a measure of how uncomfortable a given situation is for the animals.’’
He continued: “Even a THI score of 58, which indicates mild to moderate heat stress, can impact conception rates and milk yields.”
