FDA signs off Medtronic’s Innovative New Spinal Stimulator

30th April 2024

The FDA has cleared Medtronic’s Inceptiv closed-loop spinal cord stimulator (SCS) for the management of persistent pain.

Closed-loop networks, including the Inceptiv technology from Medtronic, modify its output in an immediate response to bodily indications. The technology allows users to choose a goal amount of spinal cord activation, and it adjusts the amount it produces after each pulse to accommodate different motions, such as doubling over, or laughing. Advantages of the device were revealed by Medtronic in January from a short clinical study.
