Geisinger Accelerates Genomic Infrastructure with AWS Grant

9th January 2025

Geisinger has received a $175,000 grant from Amazon Web Services (AWS) through the 2024 IMAGINE Grant program. This funding includes $150,000 in unrestricted funds and $25,000 in AWS Promotional Credits, which will assist in the advancements of the MyCode Community Health Initiative. The grant aims to democratize genomic data, thereby expanding its accessibility and integration into routine healthcare for more personalized treatments.

Geisinger’s collaboration with AWS highlights its commitment to utilizing genomic data for enhancing healthcare outcomes. The MyCode Community Health Initiative has been pivotal, with over 350,000 participants, enriching research with genetic sequencing paired with electronic health records. This initiative has already resulted in over 250 scientific publications and actionable genetic information provided to more than 5,000 participants. The AWS grant will support the creation of a scalable genomic data platform, enabling easier access for researchers and facilitating preventive genomic screenings across diverse health conditions.

Geisinger’s partnership with AWS signifies a transformative leap in genomic data management and healthcare personalization. By leveraging AWS cloud solutions, Geisinger aims to integrate population-scale genomic information into real-time care, revolutionizing diagnosis and treatment methodologies. This development not only strengthens Geisinger’s research efforts but also sets a precedent for innovation in the intersection of genomics and healthcare.
