Multiple Deaths Connected to Philips Alarm

30th May 2024

According to the conditions of a cooperation decree with the Department of Justice, Philips stopped selling the majority of rest and breathing products in the United States in April, which coincided with the most recent recalls. The firm has seen a number of issues in the past few years, and it is currently working to resolve a multi-year recall involving over 15 million ventilators and sleep apnea devices due to a defect in the soundproofing foam that was employed in the machines.

In March, Philips announced the recall of a number of ventilator devices after discovering that a software flaw might cause the machines to abruptly stop breathing. The current recalls are distinct, but according to an email from the firm, they have a comparable alarm issue that affects about 100,000 devices.

According to Philips, there are situations in which a ventilator inoperative alarm—which signals an internal malfunction or situation that can impact therapy—might mistakenly activate, resulting in the ventilator shutting down.
