New Poultry Standards Brought on by Aldi

To raise requirements regarding animal care, Aldi plans to impose stricter stocking density regulations on its fresh chicken providers.

By October 2024, the industry norm will give way to a greater welfare standard, which would provide hens 20% more room than they now have.

Tesco also confirmed the move last month. With extra room, each animal would be able to perform their normal habits, such as extending their wings, taking dust baths, and wandering about.

Additionally, it will guarantee that animals will always have more opportunity to utilise environmental enrichment features including straw bales, perches, pecking items, and daylight.

Animal welfare is ‘of utmost significance’ to Aldi UK, according to Julie Ashfield, managing director of purchasing.

She continued: “We’re already one of the UK’s largest providers of responsibly farmed chicken and we’ve been working hard with our suppliers to reduce stocking density to help us improve the living conditions of these animals even further.’’

“Thanks to this latest improvement, customers will be provided with access to higher welfare chicken at the same great value that can’t be matched.”
