J&J Commits $1bn to Jacksonville Vision Manufacturing

Johnson & Johnson has committed more than $1 billion to expand its Jacksonville, Florida vision manufacturing operations, scaling US-based production, packaging and distribution capacity for its ACUVUE contact lens portfolio. Announced on 15 June 2026, the investment forms part of the company’s broader $55 billion US manufacturing, research and development and technology commitment running through early 2029. The new distribution facility is targeted to be fully operational in 2028.

The investment funds construction of a new state-of-the-art distribution centre alongside the deployment of advanced manufacturing and packaging technologies at the Jacksonville site. J&J currently manufactures more than 1.7 billion ACUVUE contact lenses each year for US patients from the location, serving a global vision care customer base of more than 40 million patients. The Jacksonville footprint already spans roughly 1.5 million square feet of manufacturing, research, distribution and operations facilities, supporting one of the largest single-site presences in J&J’s medical technology portfolio.

Joaquin Duato, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Johnson & Johnson, framed the move as reinforcement of the company’s view that advanced manufacturing in the United States is essential to delivering high-quality healthcare globally, while strengthening US supply chain resilience. The investment sits inside the company’s previously announced $55 billion commitment to US manufacturing, research and development and technology spending through early 2029, alongside continued scaling of MedTech operations. J&J’s Jacksonville operations have been in place since 1981 and currently contribute an estimated $6 billion annually to Florida’s economy.

The Jacksonville commitment fits a broader US healthcare manufacturing reshoring trend, with the $55 billion programme designed to bring more pharmaceutical and medical device production onshore against the backdrop of tightening trade policy and supply chain volatility. With ACUVUE volumes already at 1.7 billion units annually, the move signals further structural growth in the US contact lens category.
