Neptune Wins FDA Nod for Triton Robotic Endoscopy System

21st September 2026

Neptune Medical has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its Triton 1 robotic endoscopy system for diagnostic and therapeutic colon procedures. Announced on 16 September 2026 and reported on 18 September, the clearance positions Neptune as a challenger in the rapidly emerging robotic gastrointestinal endoscopy category, in a market shaped by rising early-onset colorectal cancer incidence and dominant player Olympus’s parallel investments across the segment.

The Triton 1 was developed to give gastroenterologists greater stability and control of the endoscope during colonoscopy, addressing endoscope instability that can lead to incomplete visualisation and missed adenomas (pre-cancerous lesions). Beyond routine screening and surveillance, the robot is designed to assist in complex procedures including endoscopic mucosal resections and endoscopic submucosal dissections. In Neptune’s 50-patient CARE 1 study released in May 2026, the system met its primary endpoints with no adverse events and demonstrated an adenoma detection rate of 54.2%, well above the industry threshold of 35%.

Neptune raised $97 million in a 2024 Series D financing with investors including Olympus and Sonder Capital (co-founded by robotic surgery pioneer and Neptune Chairman Fred Moll). Olympus itself has been actively expanding across robotic gastrointestinal endoscopy, having co-founded Swan EndoSurgical in 2025 and recently entering a partnership to distribute EndoRobotics’ endoscopic robotic devices. The clearance lands amid a fast-changing colorectal cancer screening market, with the American Cancer Society recently adding at-home stool tests from Abbott’s Exact Sciences and Geneoscopy, and Guardant Health’s Shield blood test, to its screening guidelines.

The commercial signal is a rapidly maturing robotic gastrointestinal endoscopy category where dominant endoscopy players are actively acquiring, partnering with and investing in emerging challengers. Rising early-onset colorectal cancer amplifies commercial urgency. Expect Olympus (including Swan EndoSurgical and EndoRobotics), Fujifilm, Karl Storz, PENTAX Medical (Hoya) and Boston Scientific to sharpen their robotic GI positioning through the rest of 2026 and 2027.
