FDA Clears Beta Bionics Mint Patch Pump vs Insulet

Beta Bionics has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for Mint, the company’s first insulin patch pump. Announced on 14 September 2026, the tubeless patch pump has a three-day wear time and a 200-unit insulin reservoir, and will launch in the US in Q1 2027 exclusively through the pharmacy channel, positioning Beta Bionics as the second company to bring a tubeless patch pump to market against leader Insulet.

The Mint patch pump is designed with a mixture of disposable and reusable components and is smaller than Insulet’s Omnipod platform. The company expects to produce at least 1.5 million total disposable units in 2027. Mint is initially compatible with continuous glucose monitors from Abbott and Dexcom, and Senseonics separately announced integration with Beta Bionics’ current tubed iLet Bionic Pancreas insulin pump. Leerink Partners analyst Mike Kratky positioned the clearance as helping level the playing field with Insulet, which has dominated new device starts with its patch pump platform.

Beta Bionics has separately submitted a new dosing algorithm called 3D Intelligence to the FDA for 510(k) clearance, offering three algorithm settings depending on user insulin requirements. The company lowered its 2026 revenue forecast by $10 million to $121-126 million, anticipating some potential iLet users may wait for the Mint launch. The Mint clearance intensifies competitive pressure across the tubeless insulin patch pump category, complicating positioning for Insulet (Omnipod), Tandem Diabetes Care (Mobi patch pump) and the recently spun-off MiniMed (Medtronic).

The commercial signal is a rapidly consolidating tubeless insulin patch pump category where Insulet’s decade of dominance now faces credible competition from Beta Bionics and imminent MiniMed patch pump entry.
