Waters’ New Microflow LC Columns Revolutionize Bioseparations

Adam Tiberius
Waters Corporation has launched a new line of advanced 1 mm inner diameter (I.D.) liquid chromatography (LC) columns featuring MaxPeak™ Premier Technology for its ACQUITY™, BioResolve™, and GTxResolve™ brands. This technological breakthrough promises to significantly enhance sensitivity while reducing sample and solvent consumption, heralding a major shift in bioanalytical, pharmaceutical, and ‘omics fields, where efficient sample utilization is crucial.
The introduction of these microflow LC columns is poised to change the landscape of high-throughput bioseparations. By delivering up to twice the sensitivity of traditional 2.1 mm I.D. stainless steel columns, Waters aims to push the boundaries of existing separation technologies. The new columns use up to 75% less sample and consume up to four times less solvent, positioning them as sustainable and cost-effective solutions for modern laboratories. Spearheaded by Rob Carpio, Senior Vice President of Waters Analytical Sciences, this innovation addresses key challenges faced by researchers, particularly in fields like cell and gene therapy and personalized medicine, where sample availability is often limited.
In a step forward for life sciences research, Waters’ new microflow LC columns represent a noteworthy advancement in liquid chromatography. By offering improved analyte recovery and sensitivity, alongside significant reductions in sample and solvent usage, these columns provide enhanced data quality and reproducibility. As they enter the market, they stand to not only accelerate the development of life-changing therapies but also support laboratories in achieving their sustainability goals.
