Insulet Corporation has begun the US rollout of an enhanced algorithm for its Omnipod 5 automated insulin delivery system, alongside expanded compatibility to include Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus continuous glucose monitor. Announced on 3 June 2026 from Acton, Massachusetts, the dual update widens the integrated CGM choice available to Omnipod 5 users and delivers the most requested platform enhancement from the company’s late-2025 roadmap.

The Omnipod 5 is the global leader in tubeless insulin pump technology and the only tubeless automated insulin delivery system indicated for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Its SmartAdjust technology automatically regulates insulin delivery every five minutes based on glucose readings from a paired CGM. Before today’s announcement, the system supported Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus and Dexcom’s G6 and G7 sensors. The addition of FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus extends that integration to Abbott’s most recent CGM platform.

The algorithm enhancement that accompanies the rollout has been one of the most frequently requested updates from the user base and was previewed by Insulet in its November 2025 product roadmap. That same roadmap also positions the Discover insights platform, which uses machine learning to help users and clinicians interpret glucose and insulin trends, for broader 2026 rollout following limited use at select US clinics. Insulet’s next-generation Omnipod 6 remains targeted for 2027, retaining the existing pod form factor with internal and software upgrades.

The CGM choice expansion is a commercially astute move, particularly as Abbott pushes Libre 3 Plus more aggressively into US Medicare and private payer markets. Insulet now positions Omnipod 5 as the most CGM-agnostic tubeless AID system in the US, which matters as type 2 diabetes adoption of automated insulin delivery accelerates and competitive pressure from Tandem and Medtronic intensifies through 2026.
