Thermo Fisher and SHL Medical Enhance US Drug-Device Manufacturing

Adam Tiberius
Thermo Fisher Scientific and SHL Medical have embarked on a strategic collaboration to enhance drug-device manufacturing in the U.S. Their joint venture involves expanding Thermo Fisher’s Ridgefield, NJ site to support an integrated production of drug-device products. This initiative aims to streamline processes and meet growing industry demand for patient-friendly self-administered injectable therapies.
This partnership taps into the increasing need for innovative drug delivery systems, especially in treating autoimmune and chronic diseases. Thermo Fisher, a leading provider in scientific services, has fortified its stance by transforming the Ridgefield facility, acquired from Sanofi in 2025, into a premium hub for drug manufacturing and assembly. Meanwhile, SHL Medical brings its expertise with the Molly® autoinjector platform, merging it with Thermo Fisher’s capabilities to deliver a comprehensive package from drug creation to commercialization. Michelle Logan from Thermo Fisher highlighted that this collaboration will simplify supply chains and help deliver critical therapies to patients faster. Markus Puusepp of SHL Medical emphasized their shared commitment to advancing high-quality, combination products to the market efficiently.
The Ridgefield expansion aligns with Thermo Fisher’s strategy to provide integrated solutions and reinforce its global manufacturing network. This collaboration with SHL Medical underscores a commitment to advancing patient-centric therapies and represents a significant step forward for both companies in meeting industry demands and accelerating market delivery of novel treatments.
