Roche board changes

Roche’s board of directors and corporate executive committee (CEC) will be facing changes in the New Year.

Heino von Prondzynski, CEO of Roche Diagnostics, is set to retire from the CEC and be replaced by Severin Schwan, currently the Roche Diagnostics Asia-Pacific regional head.

Franz Humer, chairman and CEO of Roche said: “For many years, Heino von Prondzynski has significantly contributed to the outstanding success of our Diagnostics division.

“Under his leadership the division has substantially strengthened its global number one position and we express our deep gratitude to him for his distinguished service. With the appointment of Severin Schwan and Burkhard G Piper we continue to rejuvenate our senior leadership team with highly qualified Roche managers.”

Burkhard Piper has been appointed to the enlarged corporate executive committee as business unit head of Roche Diabetes Care.

On the board of directors Rolf Hanggi, who has been vice president since 1996, has announced his intention to stand down and Beatrice Weder di Mauro, professor of economics at the University of Mainz, is being proposed as a new member.

Rolf Hanggi, Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, DeAnne Julius and Horst Teltschik will all be reaching the end of their terms in office on the board, but will be standing for re-election at the AGM on 27 February 2006.
