Schering Plough reveals Levitra ED success
A trial on the Schering-Plough drug Levitra has yielded encouraging news for patients suffering with erectile dysfunction (ED) and high blood pressure.
The study found that Levitra, a PDE5 inhibitor, was still effective as an ED treatment in patients taking one or more medicines for the treatment of high blood pressure, or hypertension.
“This study demonstrated that Levitra was well-tolerated when used concomitantly with anti-hypertensive medications in patients not previously treated with PDE5 inhibitors,” said Dr Hermann van Ahlen, University of Muenster, Germany, the study’s author.
According to results from the study, which was published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, an 83 per cent overall success rate for erectile function was found for patients administered Levitra while taking one of more anti-hypertensive medications.
Hypertension, along with diabetes and high cholesterol, is one of the most common conditions associated with ED. It affects 29.4 million men in the United States.
