Could 3D Printing be the Future of the Medical Industry?
Ella Jackson
3D printing has revolutionised the world of healthcare, with new and innovative products still underway from sectors such engineering and medical science.
The equipment has been used to form personalised prosthetics and surgical apparatus. In the future, 3D printing may even be involved with organ transplant.
Furthermore, due to the flexible and customisable nature of 3D printing, dentists can use the application to produce implants or dentures.
3D printing has many advantages including less time and resource wasting – customisation and modelling prevent mistakes slipping through the cracks. Moreover, 3D printing offers high quality treatment as new devices can be made as well as prosthetics that suit individual’s lifestyle.
This new equipment still has its own setbacks such as the impact of materials on humans; while long-term money could be saved, the initial cost may be off-putting for companies.
