Ascendis Hormone Treatment ‘Yorvipath’ Accepted by European Commission
Ella Jackson
The European Commission has approved Yorvipath for the treatment of chronic hypoparathyroidism, a rare illness that is characterised by low levels of parathyroid hormone resulting in numbness or muscle cramping.
The medication was approved by the European Commission for use as another form of parathyroid hormone treatment. It works by restoring parathyroid levels for individuals suffering with chronic hypoparathyroidism.
The treatment named Yorvipath is to be taken once a day and is set to first hit the stands in Germany early next year.
The hormone drug was previously rejected by the FDA – while the research evidence was promising, the production quality did not pass regulation.
“To treat the underlying cause of disease, patients need new treatment options that go beyond the limits and risks of conventional therapy, which today consists of oral calcium and active vitamin D.” stated Lorenz C Hofbauer, Lecturer at the Technical University of Dresden. “Knowing the urgent need that many patients and physicians have expressed for new treatment options, we will continue our work to make Yorvipath widely available.” added Jan Mikkelsen, head of Ascendis Pharma.
