Schering Plough to develop metabolic treatments
Schering-Plough is to develop a new compound identified by novel small molecule therapeutics specialists Pharmacopeia to treat metabolic diseases.
The pharmaceutical firm has selected the firm’s work in the area of molecular compounds for further preclinical development, marking the latest in what has proved a successful partnership.
The collaboration between Schering-Plough and Pharmacopeia has yielded significant results, with Pharmacopeia chief executive officer Les Browne expressing his confidence in the potential for further commercial success.
“We are very pleased with Schering Plough’s decision to advance this compound which now becomes the sixth compound from our ongoing collaboration that is currently in development,” he said.
“By delivering small molecule drug candidates to address the significant needs of large patient populations, Pharmacopeia continues to add to its high potential development pipeline.”
Schering-Plough will develop the latest compounds, with Pharmacopeia eligible to receive further payments and royalties based on later clinical trials and, ultimately, the success of the drugs in the marketplace.
Pharmacopeia, which has been involved in the partnership for more than ten years, says its treatments of cardiovascular disease – dual angiotensin (AT1) and endothelin (ETA) receptor antagonists (DARA) ? are among its most advanced treatments.
