GlaxoSmithKline to present range of data for cancer drugs
GlaxoSmithKline said it intends to present a range of new data for its latest oncology drugs at the American Society of Clinical Oncology next week. It will include information about the phase III trials it has entered for three drugs – eltrombopag, pazopanib and casopitant.
The UK’s largest pharmaceutical company said it expects to reveal “late breaking data” concerning the trials of Tykerb for use in trastuzumab-resistant breast cancer at a special session. It will also reveal phase II trial data for patients with brain metastases resulting from HER2-positive breast cancer, also using Tykerb, as well as another phase II trial for relapsed/refractory inflammatory breast cancer.
Also available for analysis will be the results of a phase I trial studying the safety of pazopanib, a drug which restricts the formation of new blood vessels around tumours, to be used in conjunction with Tykerb.
Meanwhile, Glaxo has announced the release of the GSK Clinical Trial Register, to which it has added the detailed summaries of 2,600 clinical trials for 52 Glaxo prescription drugs and vaccines.
Frank Rockhold, senior vice-president of biomedical data sciences at Glaxo, said: “We have created a record of transparency which we believe is unsurpassed in regard to medical interventions that affect the daily lives of patients.” The register is available to members of the public and the company said it hopes medical journals will relax editorial rules preventing research from being published first online.
