Bayer reports on ‘new innovations’ in men’s healthcare
At the 22nd annual meeting of the European Association of Urology, Bayer Schering Pharma has presented a number of developments in men’s healthcare, with a focus on three separate products.
The company announced the results of trials of its erectile dysfunction (ED) drug Levitra, testosterone gel Testogel and testosterone undecanoate formulation Nebido.
In the real-life perception of efficacy, attitude, satisfaction and safety of Levitra therapy (Repeat) trial, the company investigated the 50 per cent discontinuation rate for couples seeking treatment for sexual problems.
Hermann Van Ahlen, professor of urology at the University of Muenster, said: “The results obtained from Repeat will be extremely useful in understanding the interaction between patient, partner and physician when seeking treatment for erectile problems and what can be done to assist men and their partners to achieve optimal results.”
He added that the exploration of the issues relating to ED and its impact on relationships would assist physicians in providing the best care for patients.
Other studies of Levitra showed that Levitra provided greater satisfaction for both partners when compared to placebo treatments, while 34.5 per cent of patients preferred the drug to Viagra, with 38.9 per cent expressing no preference.
The company also presented positive results for tests involving the testosterone therapies Nebido and Testogel.
Bayer reports that sales of Levitra reached 314 million euros (213.23 million pounds) in 2006.
