BioMerieux acquires microbiological testing company BTF

13th September 2007

BioMerieux yesterday announced the acquisition of Australian microbiological testing firm BTF.

Based in Sydney, BTF’s BioBall technology is implemented in quality assurance in order to verify the performance of control methods and is also recognised as a leader in water control solutions, according to bioMerieux.

Corporate vice-president for industrial microbiology Alexandre Merieux stated that the variety of products produced by BTF were "key" additions to bioMerieux’s range of microbiological control solutions.

"We are acutely aware of the quality assurance challenges our customers are facing and are constantly on the lookout for technological breakthroughs that can facilitate their work," he added.

Chief executive of bioMerieux Stephane Bancel added that the company is continuing to implement its strategy of acquiring small and medium-sized firms to supplement the product range offered by the France-based company.

Earlier this year, bioMerieux announced its launch of the first automated detection test for clostridium difficile A and B toxins.
