NPS Pharmaceuticals welcomes new vice president

31st October 2007

NPS Pharmaceuticals is to welcome a new vice president of regulatory affairs and drug safety with the appointment of Douglas N Dobak from AstraZeneca.

Mr Dobak had most recently served as AstraZeneca’s executive director for US regulatory affairs but has also held regulatory affairs positions at Pfizer, DuPont Pharmaceuticals and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Dr Francois Nader, executive vice president and chief operating officer of NPS, illustrated how Mr Dobak had over thirty years of experience supporting new drug approvals and product launches for some of the leading pharmaceutical companies.

“His expertise in regulatory affairs and knowledge of multiple therapeutic areas, including gastrointestinal disorders, will be invaluable as we work to advance our late- stage product candidates, Gattex and Preos,” he added.

NPS Pharmaceuticals specialises in the development and commercialisation of small molecules and recombinant proteins as drugs, mainly for the treatment of metabolic, bone and mineral and central nervous system disorders.

Last year NPS Pharmaceuticals extended its relationship with AstraZeneca with the announcement that the companies would work in partnership to develop treatments targeted at metabotropic glutamate receptors.
