Eli Lilly receives FDA approval for Cialis

Eli Lilly has announced that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved its once-daily oral medication Cialis, indicated for use in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED).

The pharmaceutical company states that when Cialis (tadalafil 2.5mg and 5mg) is taken daily, men can attempt sexual activity at anytime between doses.

Regulatory approval means the new low-dose daily treatment can be used in men with ED who anticipate more frequent sexual activity.

Eli Lilly suggests that for other men, the previously approved dosing regimen may be more appropriate.

FDA approval follows a successful series of clinical trials which showed Cialis once-daily to improve erectile function when taken without restrictions on the timing of sexual activity.

Shawn Heffern, Cialis US director of Brand Marketing at Eli Lilly, stated that the company was committed to providing treatment that fitted patients’ needs.

“Now, patients have two options – some may prefer the up to 36 hours of efficacy provided by Cialis for use as needed while others may want the unique benefit provided by this daily dosing option,” he indicated.

Last month, Eli Lilly’s chief executive officer Sidney Taurel announced that he was to retire from the post on March 31st 2008.
