Former Rugby star ‘now an equine surgeon’

A former Rugby player has become an equine vet after completing training in surgery at Cambridge University, it has been reported.

Luis Lamas, who has previously played the sport internationally, told Horse and Hound magazine about his career-change choices.

He commented: “I’m passionate about being a vet and about horses. I do miss international rugby but don’t have time for both. I prefer being a vet – I definitely made the right choice.”

The last game Mr Lamas played at an international level was in 2000, after which he began to concentrate more on his studies, the magazine continued.

He finished training at Cambridge University and has now joined the Minster Equine Veterinary Clinic in York.

The Department of Veterinary Medicine at Cambridge University recently received the “highest possible” accreditation from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

It stated that the only other organisation to achieve such an accolade through the Practice Standards Scheme is the Royal Veterinary College.
