Amgen presents oncology investigational molecule data

Amgen has presented new data regarding four investigational molecules from its oncology pipeline at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

The firm announced results from trials of recombinant human Apo2L/TRAIL, AMG 479, AMG 102 and motesanib alone and in combination with chemotherapy or other targeted agents.

It said that these compounds are a part of its strong therapeutic development programme in oncology and added that this area is organised by the apoptosis, growth regulation and angiogenesis pathway areas.

David Chang, vice-president of global oncology development at Amgen, said: “Cancer is a complex disease which requires innovative therapeutic approaches to attack out-of-control cells.

“While still early, we believe that developing and executing well-designed clinical trials will allow us to explore a range of therapeutic potentials to combat this devastating illness.”

He added that the aim of the firm is to generate clinical evidence to make progress in the treatment of cancer by using innovative strategies such as combining targeted therapies or targeting more than one pathway.

Last month, Amgen announced that it would soon present data supporting theories that the Rankl pathway plays a mechanistic role in cancer-related bone loss.
