BioMerieux has bought a Swedish in vitro diagnostics company to increase its microbiology operations.
The in vitro diagnostics firm has acquired AB Biodisk which has research and development facilities in Stockholm.
AB Biodisk’s leading product line, the Etest, is used to determine the exact Minimum Inhibitory Concentration of antibiotics, antifungal agents and antimycobaterial agents.
Discussing the firm’s fourth acquisition in less than two years, Stephane Bancel, BioMeriuex chief executive, said AB Biodisk’s Etest line was a "great brand" and the firm was excited about taking on such a reputable team.
"For the past 18 months, bioMérieux has been following an ambitious strategy in microbiology, building on our leadership position with an enhanced portfolio of innovative solutions to better serve our customers," he added.
Biomerieux claims to have been a world leader in its field for over 45 years, it is present in more than 150 countries through 387 subsidiaries. In 2007, its revenues reached 1,063 billion euros.
