Hospira names new chief scientific officer
Hospira has named Sumant Ramachandra as its new chief scientific officer and senior vice president, it has been revealed.
Dr Ramachandra will take responsibility for the research and development operations of the specialised pharmaceutical product delivery business that deals in markets around the world.
According to Hospira’s chief executive officer and chairman Christopher Begley, Dr Ramachandra has a results-driven approach to drug development and a proven track record that will see him excel in his new post.
“Sumant brings an extraordinary combination of scientific, clinical and business acumen to Hospira, with deep and broad experience across all phases of product development — from preclinical programs through life-cycle management,” said Mr Begley.
A major acquisition deal in February 2007 saw Hospira take control of the Mayne Pharma company and become one of the world’s largest suppliers of “generic injectable pharmaceuticals”.
