Boehringer Ingelheim announce top level reshuffle

Boehringer Ingeheim has revealed that the chairman of its board of managing directors is to step down and be replaced by its current vice-chairman.

After being with the pharmaceuticals giant for almost 35 years, Dr Alessandro Banchi has decided to retire and allow his vice-chairman Dr Andreas Barner to take over at the helm of the managing directors’ board.

Dr Barner is to remain responsible for the company’s research and development efforts, while the marketing and sales chief Bert Tjeenk Willink will join the board to replace Dr Banchi.

Christian Boehringer, chairman of Boehringer Ingelheim’s shareholders’ committee, said: “Dr Banchi has fundamentally shaped Boehringer Ingelheim’s entrepreneurial success as well as decisively driven forward its profitability and internationalisation, especially in the USA.”
