Afga HealthCare appointment ‘to strengthen market position’

Agfa HealthCare has announced the appointment of Dr Volker Wetekam as executive vice-president for IT in a bid to strengthen and grown the firm’s market position worldwide.

Dr Wetekam will take up this position on September 15th and report directly to president of the company Christian Reinaudo.

He will be responsible for 3,000 members of staff in his role as head of healthcare IT and be charged with defining and implementing the company’s overall strategic positioning in the company’s IT division.

This segment manages the enterprise IT business and its imaging informatics segment, which covers solutions including picture archiving and communications systems (PACS), cardiovascular information systems and hospital and clinical information systems.

Mr Reinaudo said: “We are extremely pleased to have attracted such talent to our organisation.

“His years of experience in the healthcare IT sector and extensive understanding of its challenges and opportunities will further support our company’s transformation to a fully fledged healthcare IT provider.”

He added the company has pioneered in the PACS market for nearly two decades and has been a key market player in healthcare IT since then.

In January 2008, Agfa announced the appointment of Willy Duron to its board of directors.
