Astra Tech implants claim to set new standard

Astra Tech has claimed that its dental implants are setting a new standard when it comes to the extent of marginal bone resoption a patient can expect to experience.

At a recent dentistry conference in Washington, experts from Astra Tech suggested that marginal bone levels on its implants tended to recede by only 0.4 mm one year after being set in place.

This compares favourably with other dentistry implant systems and could lead to a readjustment of what is generally accepted as being a successful procedure, the company maintains.

Tomas Albrektsson, professor of biomaterial research at the University of Gothenburg said: “The limited marginal bone resorption being documented on Astra Tech implants indicates that it is time to reconsider our old ‘standard’.

First introduced in the 1980s, Astra Tech’s implant system “remains highly effective” the dental industry supply firm maintains.

Early healing and “excellent aesthetics” in the short and long-term are describesd by Astra Tech as being hallmarks of its dental implants system.
